Introduction to Graphic Design & Visual Communication

A hands-on foundation in design thinking, tools, and visual storytelling.

Learn to think like a designer—no pricey software required.

This course offers a practical, accessible introduction to the core principles of graphic design and visual communication. Through hands-on projects and guided exercises, students explore how images, text, and layout work together to communicate ideas clearly and powerfully.

You’ll learn:
  • Key design principles: contrast, hierarchy, alignment, repetition, and balance
  • The basics of typography, layout, and composition
  • How to evaluate and improve visual communication
  • How to choose the right format and tools for your message
  • File types, color modes, and workflow tips across a range of free and paid platforms
Students work on real-world projects including posters, social media graphics, simple branding, and multi-page layouts. The focus is on concept, clarity, and adaptability—not mastering one specific tool.

All assignments can be completed using free or low-cost software options. No previous design experience required.

Ideal for beginners, community leaders, faith-based teams, and anyone looking to communicate with more visual purpose.
